A practical guide to using the OANDA Gravity indicator in MT4 to identify historical support and resistance zones in trading.
Introducing the OANDA Gravity indicator
The OANDA Gravity indicator is a tool in MT4 that displays historical consolidated price levels on the chart.
These levels — where the market previously paused or moved sideways — can help identify potential support and resistance points.
They may also highlight areas of renewed consolidation in future price action.
This indicator is especially useful when determining take-profit or stop-loss levels.
Configuration of OANDA Gravity indicator
Setting up the OANDA Gravity indicator is a simple process.
The available settings include:
- Time period:
Choose between 'Normal' and 'Short-term'.
The 'Short-term' setting uses more recent price data, making it suitable for short-term trades such as day trading.
- Level X colour:
Select the display colour for each level.
Viewing results for a specific period
You can also analyse historical price data using the OANDA Gravity indicator by following these steps.
- Draw a vertical line on your MT4 chart.
- Rename the vertical line to “GStart”.
- The OANDA Gravity indicator will display levels calculated from the current price back to the position of the vertical line.
By shifting the vertical line left or right, the Gravity levels are recalculated and displayed for any chosen period.
This indicator allows you to check what happened to the price during past periods of consolidation.
