A step-by-step guide to creating, saving, and applying default chart templates in MetaTrader 4 to optimise your trading workflow.
How to display and customise indicators to improve your technical analysis in MT4
You can save your customised chart settings as templates in MT4. By turning the indicators, chart design, and other settings you have configured into a template, you can easily apply them to other charts. This saves time and helps you stay focused on your analysis.
How to create a chart template in MT4
1. Start by creating the chart you would like to save as a template.
2. Right-click on the chart, select “Template” from the menu, then choose “Save Template”.
3. Next, assign a name to your template. In this example, we have called it “sample1”.
4. Once saved, to apply the template to another chart, right-click on that chart, go to “Template”, and select the one you saved.
5. The selected template will then be applied to the chart.
Creating a default template in MT4
You can also set a chart template as the default for any new charts you open. To do this, save the template with the file name “default.tpl”. From then on, any new chart you open will automatically use this default template.
Once you are familiar with MT4 and have developed your preferred chart layout, setting it as the default can streamline your workflow and enhance your trading experience.
