OANDA Professional Trading account qualification

To trade using a Professional Trading account, clients must qualify as either a ‘wholesale client’ or ‘sophisticated investor’ based on specific criteria.

Whole Sale Clients

Wholesale clients

Defined under Section 761G(7)(c) of the Corporations Act, wholesale client status is determined based on financial qualifiers, financial literacy and product knowledge. Specifically:

  • Assets of at least AUD2.5 million; or
  • Gross income for each of the last 2 financial years of at least AUD250,000;
  • A qualified accountant must certify that the client meets one of the above financial criteria; and
  • Clients need to meet a level of financial literacy and product knowledge.
Sophisticated investors icon

Sophisticated investors

Defined under Section 761GA of the Corporations Act, sophisticated investor status is determined based on trading history, market experience and product knowledge. OANDA must be satisfied that the client has sufficient experience trading derivatives to assess:

  • The merits of the products; and
  • The value of the products; and
  • The risks associated with holding the product; and
  • The client’s own information needs; and
  • The adequacy of the information given by OANDA.

OANDA does NOT guarantee to any client that they will meet the qualifying standards required to be a wholesale client or sophisticated investor. Those clients that DO qualify will be upgraded to the Professional Trading account.

OANDA will NOT assess as a wholesale client or sophisticated investor those clients that:

  • Are trading derivatives in connection with a business; or
  • Have not traded derivatives previously.
