Head of Public Relations & Social Media, New York

Head of Public Relations is responsible for managing all aspects of the OANDA’s global public relations, corporate reputation and organic social media strategy/execution across all global markets. The remit for the role covers the trading, data and analytics and payments business globally.


  • Develop and execute a strategic PR and social media initiatives to ensure alignment with business strategy and key corporate goals
  • Plan, budget, and implement PR and social media  initiatives ensuring all compliance and regulatory standards are met
  • Act as OANDA’s official press representative, handling all media enquiries, providing clear responses that speak to the brand on behalf of key spokespeople
  • Prepare press releases and other content (e.g. responses, statements, bylined articles, Q&As, OpEds, factsheets, speeches etc.) in line with local and corporate vision
  • Develop a clear messaging framework and ensure PR is fully aligned with various business and marketing objectives
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure PR is fully aligned with the various business and marketing objectives
  • Arrange interviews and media tours for the executive committee where possible, preparing them for press engagements
  • Define measurements to evaluate PR and social media activities in order to continuously improve the plan’s effectiveness in driving brand consideration and new client acquisition/retention.
  • Collate and analyse media coverage, providing regular feedback on ROI and measuring against specified PR and social media objectives
  • Monitor competitor PR activities and keep abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes and proactively pitch media story ideas to target media, and where appropriate, materials in response
  • Maintain and establish new relationships with key media and other influencers in the industry within the company’s areas of expertise
  • Organise media events globally including press conferences and roundtables
  • Manage the PR and rapid response aspect of any potential reputation or crisis situations
  • Media train and coach spokespeople and senior executives on how to deal with the media 
  • Contribute to the overall marketing plan and collaborate closely with key marketing stakeholders in performance marketing content, product, events and creative services
  • Manage external PR agencies and other key agency relationships across the business
  • Strategic leader driving innovation in marketing by Introducing new PR and social media technologies/channels/opportunities as appropriate top drive performance
  • Ensure effective and risk management processes/controls are in place at all times and appropriate measures implemented to ensure compliance with relevant group Policies to protect our clients and our business.


  • Extensive experience of leading public relations  and social media teams focused on the global consumer, global press and global influencers / analyse
  • Extensive experience of managing significant partnerships and other third parties, PR and social media budgets and driving significant brand visibility and traffic growth
  • Extensive marketing experience in highly regulated fintech global industries
  • Several years of experience working in a fast-paced digital industry with commercially driven objectives
  • Solid working knowledge of current PR and social software tools and Internet technologies and aptitude to learn, understand and apply new technologies
  • Leadership training in managing a diverse team within a matrix or complex organisation
  • Results and future-focused seeks out evolving and innovative ways to add value to the business
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking and planning ability, whilst being tactically responsive to changing needs
  • Shows understanding of relevant budgets and how they apply in own work environment
  • Takes ownership for communicating change initiatives clearly, ensuring smooth implementation
  • Understands the complexities of political dynamics and uses this to manage relationships and resolve conflict effectively.
  • Experience of influencing at all levels, cross-functionally and externally; providing clarity and insight to complex discussions and debates in order to achieve resolution and understanding
  • Presents a credible and positive image both internally and externally 
  • Confronts and works through tough issues, demonstrating perseverance and a sense of urgency
