The Director of Operations is responsible for organizing, directing and leading all technology Infrastructure and DevOps activities within the company. This includes leading, mentoring and developing a number of highly-skilled technical teams, including our Release Management, Corporate IT, Systems Engineering, DevOps and DBA groups. This position will report to a member of our executive team, and will have a number of Team Leads as direct reports.

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for the design, development, monitoring and support of financial trading systems located in multiple datacentres globally.
  • Internal support for multiple offices within our corporate environment: this includes voice/data networks, security, systems admin, desktop support, email, storage, servers and data center management.
  • Project management: Lead and direct various enterprise project initiatives, to include managing all phases of an infrastructure project including staffing, requirements definition, design, vendor selection and management, hardware/software development and/or customization, testing, deployment, and post-deployment support.
  • Team management: Develop, manage and support a set of highly-skilled technical teams. Set priorities, mentor, direct professional growth, and lead implementation of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Actively manage the Operations capex and opex budgets, to meet budgetary expectations and corporate goals.
  • Work with team and vendors to continually improve cost efficiencies through competitive vendor negotiations through formidable bidding and metrics-based vendor management.
  • Develop and maintain performance Service level Objectives (SLO’s ) and metrics relative to the areas being supported.
  • Identify technology solution opportunities and/or processes to support business growth opportunities.
  • Comply with laws and regulations as they pertain to services provided by OANDA. This includes supporting and demonstrating compliance with OANDA’s obligations with respect to Financial regulations and Privacy regulations.
  • Represent the culture and values of the Company to other groups, agencies and the general public, and ensure accuracy of public information materials.
  • As applicable, attend in-service, continuing education or seminar programs to stay current with industry and community trends.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, and/or equivalent work experience
  • Experience & Skills:
  • 8+ years managing technical teams; preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience in a variety of different corporate and technical environments
  • 10+ years engineering, developing, planning, executing enterprise-wide technology infrastructure initiatives
  • 5+ years in vendor management  
  • Strong management skills, with a proven track-record of performing against measurable performance indicators
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large cross-functional projects, including establishment of goals (both financial and non-financial), scope, and strategy; ability to plan, organize, coordinate and implement strategic initiatives. 
  • Strong presentation skills; ability to present data and conclusions in an organized and understandable fashion 
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to provide leadership, guidance and direction to a team with varied skill levels
  • Ability to work cooperatively with internal & external team members and interface with all levels of management
