Communications & Social Media Specialist, Toronto

OANDA is seeking a Communications and Social Media Specialist to help OANDA build its employer brand both internally and externally.

An expert in Social Media, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining both the technical and content aspects of blogs, video feeds, creating and maintaining presence on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, Instagram and trending social networking sites and resource centres.

You must have experience in tracking Social Media reach with a proven track record in optimizing the performance of Social Media assets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain a social media program in order to stimulate traffic, brand awareness and to raise OANDA’s profile on employment related sites
  • Monitor social networks and employment related sites for potential threats and opportunities and respond accordingly
  • Work with stakeholders across the organization to collect and organize content to develop and deliver the company’s onboarding program
  • Manage OANDA’s internal blogs and communication networks to foster teamwork and information sharing across OANDA’s 9 offices.
  • Monitor social networks for potential threats and opportunities
  • Execute organic strategies into Social Media utilizing Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, You Tube and other social media platforms
  • Establish relationships with key bloggers
  • Conduct online research to identify Web sites and online influencers for outreach
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in Social Media best practices, trends and tools, and recommend new strategies
  • Provide guidance for OANDA’s content developers to promote Social Media-friendly artifacts
  • Stay current with social media trends and best practices and research opportunities for new social marketing platforms
  • Review and approve content on a daily basis

Desired Skills and Experience


  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Communications/English, Public Relations, Marketing or Journalism
  • 3+ years of experience in social media, public relations, communication and/or marketing experience, in-depth knowledge of Social media platforms and their respective participants and how they can be deployed
  • Proven experience in conceiving and implementing social media programs including: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, blogs, and other online communities.
  • Superior communication and organizational skills with proven ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format
  • Results oriented, highly organized, independent self-motivated team player who has the confidence to take the lead and guide others when necessary
  • Financial markets experience an asset
  • Technically savvy, with the ability to learn new hardware and software quickly.
