Gibraltar is a British territory located at the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula, at the strategic entrance to the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean. The territory is a mountainous peninsula with an area of 6,843 km sq, and shares a northern border with Andalusia, Spain. The Rock of Gibraltar is an important reference point in the region.
Gibraltar's currency is the Gibraltar Pound, issued by the Government of Gibraltar under the terms of the 1934 Act Currency Notes. These notes are legal tender in Gibraltar, in addition to the notes of the Bank of England. Coins in circulation use British names, but have different designs. Most retail stores in Gibraltar unofficially accept the Euro, although some phones and the Royal Gibraltar Post Office do not.
